At the break on Saturday afternoon, the 80 competitors in the European KF-Junior Championship have run nine of their 15 qualifying heats, so there is an opportunity to check the rankings, as everyone has the same number of races on the scoreboard. KF-Junior is a very rough category, cashes, although not serious, are not rare on the wide curves of Alcaniz and the results have been felt. Penalties haven’t been given frequently enough to calm them with two on Friday for bad behavior on track and three for bad starts.
The polesitter Lando Norris (FA Kart / Vortex) retains a clear advantage in first place with three consecutive victories. Ranked 11th in qualifying, Sasakorn Chaimongkol (Kosmic / TM) lost second position after a crash in the last to drop to 5th which benefited Matteo Raspatelli (Tony Kart / Parilla), eighth lap in qualifying and with two wins, but Nikita Mazepin ( Tony Kart / Vortex) had a strong finish to go from 21st back to third position. David Beckmann (Zanardi / BMB) remains in the game in fourth position ahead of Chaimongkol, while Bryan Elpitiya (Energy / TM) is in seventh thanks to excellent performances. In eighth, Max Defourny (Kosmic / TM) is doing well also ahead of Logan Sargeant (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Robert Shwartman (Tony Kart / TM) who was 24th against the clock.
Gabriel Aubry (Birel / TM) is well positioned with his 10th. Lorenzo Travisanutto (Tony Kart / Vortex) lost out a lot by finishing ninth in his first heat, he is currently in 12th ahead of Niko Kari (FA Kart / Vortex), Martijn Van Leeuwen (Zanardi / TM), Parker Thompson (Energy / TM) and Benjamin Lessennes (Kosmic / Vortex).
Among the drivers who are still struggling include Nikita Sitnikov (Tony Kart / BMB) in 20th, Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart / Parilla) in 26th, Daniel Ticktum (FA Kart / Vortex), Leonardo Pulcini (Tony Kart / Vortex) in 33rd, but the biggest slide was for Noah Milell (Exprit / Vortex), fourth in qualifying and now 45th.
